The ROOT Team of Craftsmen

Off

Previously, we explored the concept that most good architects are also skilled craftsmen, and frequently they spend their free time mastering side passions that lend themselves to honing their craft and skills as an architect, engineer, and designer of spaces. Craft is at the core of architecture. The definition of ‘craft’ is the making of any object while understanding the materials and the true meaning behind its creation, and appreciating the process of bringing it into being. This idea encompasses the ethos of ‘making’ that focuses on creating simply for creation’s sake, or for joy, or for the pleasure of attaining mastery.

Craftsmanship also embodies the ideas of passion, desire to learn, attention to detail, and appreciation for quality. In this way, a great architect is also a craftsman. Skills learned from side passions may help increase an individual’s adaptability as an architect.

The architects at ROOT are no exception – each of our talented designers also pursues interests outside of work that lend themselves to greater skills and creativity in a range of areas.

Zeke architect builder

Zeke

Zeke is not only a principal at ROOT and an accomplished designer, but he also is a skilled builder, and can not only design a beautiful multi-purpose space, but also construct it from scratch.  Zeke recently build a treehouse dwelling on a property adjoining his own, which serves as a beautiful functional space for guests to visit and make the most of the mountain scenery and outdoor experience.

Claudia

Claudia spends her spare time painting on canvas. Painting has helped her to be more bold with color, texture and focus on balance when she is designing spaces. Also has make me love the asymmetrical design, accomplish with this that everywhere you see a Building/space you emerged into different experience and sensations.

Dulce

Dulce’s side passion is dancing.  For her, it develops constancy, perseverance, patience, and coordination – being proud of small progress and being amazed of how, once assimilated, it evolves into a more beautiful, complex and intricate work.

Saira

“Detailings” could be a way of explaining Saira’s craft that makes her a better architect.
Saira believes that “inner beauty” applied to spaces within good architecture, is achieved with a good handling of details. She tries that in each place that she arrives, in the designs that she works on or in her own spaces. Designing elements that complement interior designs is how Saira seeks to achieve a balance between materials, colors, textures and lighting.

Saira is currently designing and manufacturing decorative cushions based on seasonal concepts. She promotes them through her online account ACCENTO_RD.

Carlos

Being able to use a natural medium such as wood to serve as a channel between the immaterial of your ideas to the tangible of the final pieces is one of the many reasons Carlos spend a lot of his free time in his wood shop practicing the art of woodworking.
